Google to Buy Yahoo

All talk in the search engine industry has been regarding the potential sale of Yahoo to Microsoft. Big news admittedly, but imagine if Google were to outbid Microsoft and purchase Yahoo for themselves.

Google already claims around 75% of the search engine market, therefore it doesn’t really need to worry too much about having to buy their competitors, but nonetheless purchasing its closest rival would be a nice feather in the cap of Google.

It is widely regarded in the industry that Microsoft has had its day. How many people can honestly say that they use MSN or Live Search, or however they prefer to be known these days, as their main search engine?

Please put your hands in the air if you do……

Hmmm….as I expected.

With this in mind it does make perfect sense that Microsoft would want to buy Yahoo. After all, Yahoo is the second most popular worldwide search engine so obviously purchasing the company would see Microsoft’s market share increase.

But imagine if Google decided to buy Yahoo instead.

Firstly, online users would have not just one but two top class search engines to find exactly what they are looking for without having to wade through tons of useless sites.

Secondly, Google would be gaining an even greater share in a market that they already dominate, thus boosting their income even further.

Finally and most importantly, Google know how to run a successful search engine. Fact. They would be able to transform Yahoo from being a relatively popular and usable search engine to becoming something very much on par with the quality of Google, which can only be a good thing.

Unless of course you work for Microsoft. And if that is the case then you better hope that Google don’t dip into their endless pockets any time soon.
